SUMMER VIEWS 2009 – The OM Connection
With the solstice now behind us, it means a change of schedule for many and the possibility to find OM in all that we do this sOMmer. OM, sometimes spelt AUM, is a primordial sound referring to the ‘oneness’ of all things. It is the universal sound of creation, or the pulse of the cosmos itself. Its vibration and frequency shape and organize energy in such a way, as to cause atoms to move and grow together, manifesting ‘wholeness’. When practicing yoga, we chant OM to send these powerful vibrations through the deepest parts of the body, helping cleanse and relax our organs and cells. OM sounds and feels like hOMe, the most comforting place to be.
With the summer $99 unlimited yoga sale extended until the end of June, yoga is is one of those very affordable options for total connection to OM. If you like to walk and hike, stop to listen to the sound of OM in the rustling of the flowers and the bees. If you run or bike, listen for it within the leaves of the trees. When swimming, canoeing or kayaking, you can hear its sound in the water and the waves. If you must be on the computer, perhaps try ConcentratiOM with Rodney Yee!
Have a fabulous summer and enjoy the Canada Day week ahead. The studio is closed on July 1st this year, so please check the website for long weekend schedules before attending class. Lori & Staff at Body Harmony
btw, Thank you to Karma Hair Lounge and Balance Harmony Massage for their gift certificate donations at our Peru Night and Customer Appreciation. As well, gratitude to those who came to our special evening!
Duncan Wells is our Student of the Summer. A fun and lively spirit to have at the studio, Duncan says, “I have been practicing yoga at Body Harmony for almost three years now, and have to admit to starting for some selfish reasons (like attending for a good workout). Yoga is so much more. The union of the spirit, the psyche and the physical. Yoga has helped me to understand myself, the universe, our places in it and that we and everything are all connected. The family at Body Harmony (staff, instructors and students) along with the fantastic atmosphere and friendships created, are just part of the reason for my practicing here. Thank you everyone for being a part of this incredible experience. Namaste.”
Again this summer Lori will be teaching Mixed Levels Hatha Yoga down at John Lawson Park in West Vancouver. Classes are running through the summer Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 – 11:30am weather permitting. (She is there even if it is cloudy but not if it’s drizzling or raining). Please bring a yoga mat and beach towel, along with some sunscreen. Arrive at least 10 minutes early, especially if you prefer a spot in the shade. Taught by donation, join us for this opportunity to lift your spirit and get in touch with nature.

Please join or sponsor our team of teachers and students in support of kids age 6-17 with HIV/AIDS to go to summer camp. Many of the children that attend Camp Moomba are confronted by similar issues in their lives and many live in difficult socio-economic situations. Most urbanites don’t have alot of space to cultivate a garden. If you lack a yard, or your balcony potting just isn’t satisfying your need to dig up weeds, look into helping out around your local community garden. Many hold weekly work bees, as well as monthly workshops on eco-gardening topics. Check out this recent North Shore News article for gardening in North and West Vancouver .
