APRIL VIEWS 2012 – Listen & Respond

DSC 0702.203736

The human body has positive and negative feedback mechanisms. When listened to with awareness, it gives us an opportunity to learn and grow. The response our body gives during an asana in yoga practice, gives an indication of what needs to be done next. If the feedback offered brings us happiness, then we can continue to enjoy the breath while maintaining the posture, or consider moving in more deeply. If we feel pain, we need to adjust the posture and ease off, breathing deeply while delving into the initial cause of the issue. If we feel discomfort, then we can send a full conscious breath to the area that needs attention, while perhaps visualizing the release of tension. Amazingly, if we truly listen to the body and respond appropriately at all times, we will seldom experience dis-ease.

At Body Harmony Yoga, the success of our studio also revolves around feedback. A healthy feedback system for us would involve your participation in our Spring Survey. Please take 2 minutes to complete our new compilation of questions, and in turn, we will process and respond to the feedback received. (An added bonus is that all entries will be entered into a draw to win 1 Month of Unlimited Yoga or a 5 Class Pass). Do recall, feedback offers us all the potential for growth.

A couple of nice-to-know items include the Serenity Now Sale extension on now until March 31/12. That means the 20 classes for $200 with a 6 month expiry, is on for just a couple more days. As well, the Journey of Our Hearts draw winner was Paula Bohan. Congratulations to her and to all who participated in this year’s program!

Thank you to everyone who actively participates at Body Harmony. We look forward to seeing you, hearing from you soon and serving you better.

Sincerely,
Lori Charko

Student Of The Month

Congratulations David Cant! For being this month’s Student of the Month! David holds a special place in our hearts, and demonstrates an amazing dedication to his practice twice a week. He always carries a great disposition and we enjoy seeing him regularly.

We asked David about his experience with yoga, and these were his comments: “After watching Joanne participate in yoga for several years, I was inspired by the passion that she showed for her practice. So, never wanting to be left out of a good thing, I decided I would try it out.

That was almost three years ago. Today, I really look forward to my yoga class after a day in the office. I enjoy the variety of teachers, the enthusiasm and attention they bring to their students. It is nice to know that I can attend any class that works for my unpredictable schedule and not be disappointed. Body Harmony has become more than a place to learn and practice yoga. For me, it’s a Spa for the Spirit. I extend my gratitude to all the teachers and students whose energies combine to make Body Harmony something special.”

Join the fight against cancer in this very special yoga event on Earth Day, Sunday April 22nd!

We will be supporting the “Ride to Conquer Cancer” this year, specifically “Team Finn” in remembrance of a special little boy, named Finn, who battled for a year and a half with a very rare type of childhood cancer. He lost his battle shortly after his third birthday. Whether you are on your bike, or on your mat, we want to support those around us who are struggling with this hardship, and to remember the bravery of those no longer with us. Come join us in class and share your practice by stretching for a noble cause!

Sunday April 22nd
Mixed Levels Hatha Yoga Flow
12:30pm – 2:00pm

Admission by donation, or use your pass and Body Harmony will make a donation on your behalf.

All proceeds go directly to supporting BC Cancer Foundation.

Studio Dress Policy

spring2.165559

Now that spring has sprung, we wish to make a friendly reminder that our studio has a warm weather dress policy. Please refrain from wearing short shorts, or anything too low cut or revealing, as we want our students to be able to focus on what’s on the inside instead of the outside! Long shorts or Capri’s, modest tank tops and  t-shirts are all welcome. We want everyone to feel happy and comfortable, and to remember, yoga is about inner balance, not outer attire.
